Hijab thief nabbed in Tawau

TAWAU: A man wanted on suspicion of stealing a hijab was arrested in a raid on a house in Batu 2, Jalan Apas, on Friday morning.
Tawau District Police Chief, ACP Jasmin Hussin said the 48-year-old local suspect was arrested by a police team from the district’s Criminal Investigation Division after receiving public information.
ADVERTISEMENT According to him, his team also seized the clothes used by the suspect during the crime of theft believed to have happened at Jalan Kee Abdullah, Sabindo on Monday (Aug 5).
“Preliminary investigations found that the suspect also has four previous criminal records, two of which are related to crime and two more cases involving drugs,” he said.
Earlier, he said, the police received a report from a headscarf shop entrepreneur after finding that the headscarves hung for sale had reduced with the victim losing around RM600.
Jasmin said, as a result of the inspection through closed circuit camera (CCTV) footage, it was found that an unknown man appeared to be taking several pieces of hijab from the hanging rack in front of the victim’s shop.
ADVERTISEMENT “The man was recorded doing what he did twice and continued to walk away,” he said.
He added that the case is still under investigation in accordance with Section 380 of the Penal Code, including the recovery of the stolen items.
