Learn from conflicts, don’t let politics, religion divide us, says Rafidah

Former minister Rafidah Aziz said it was important for the government to stand for what is right and to condemn what is wrong.
PETALING JAYA: Former minister Rafidah Aziz has urged Malaysians to heed lessons from conflicts that are ravaging other parts of the world and not allow politics, religion or ideology to disunite them.
Malaysians must defend, strengthen and maintain the country’s integrity, irrespective of their ethnicity or religious background.

"All of us must learn lessons from these conflicts that nothing should divide or decimate us. Not politics, religion or ideologies," she said in a Facebook post today, citing the ongoing war in Gaza as an example, which she added has led to many being killed.
Rafidah went on to say that in times of geopolitical rifts and conflicts, various governments would register their stand and take sides, especially when the issue involved race and religion.
She added that regardless of a country’s political inclination, it was important for the government to stand for what is right and to condemn what is wrong.
"We must always be on the side of what is right," said Rafidah, who was dubbed as the "Iron Lady" during her days in the Cabinet in the 1990s and early 2000s.

Rafidah urged Malaysia not to be sucked into the geopolitical conflicts of the so-called big powers and their "underlings".
Yesterday, the foreign ministry condemned the attack by Israel on the al-Tabin School in Gaza City on Saturday that left more than 100 Palestinians, many of them children, dead. The Palestinians had sought refuge at the school.
