Empower youths: Hajiji
The Chief Minister said the youths are the future generation who will continue the legacy of state development, agents of change, innovators and future leaders.
Kota Kinabalu: The Sabah Government will continue to implement various programmes to enhance the economic wellbeing of youths in the State, said Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor.

He said the human capital development agenda, especially the young people, will continue to be emphasised to produce quality, skilled and first-class-minded human capital.

Accordingly, he invited all parties to continue working together to empower Sabah’s youths.

“All sides of the Government, the private sector and the community need to join hands to create opportunities and provide the support needed by the youths,” he said at the State-level National Youth Consultative Council Conference, Session II, Term 34, Year 2022-2024 at Shangri-La Tanjung Aru here, Monday.

His speech was read by Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Ellron Angin.

The Chief Minister said the youths are the future generation who will continue the legacy of state development, agents of change, innovators and future leaders.

“It is important that we give them the right platform to grow and contribute. With the right support, the youths can play a greater role in the economic, social and cultural development of the State,” he said.

Hajiji said Sabah has experienced various achievements in youth development. Skills training programmes, entrepreneurial initiatives and social activities have had a positive impact on many of the State’s youths.

However, he said, among the challenges that exist include the lack of job opportunities, education issues and the lack of infrastructure that supports youth development, which the Government is now actively addressing.

Hajiji said in terms of education, the Government through the State Education Department is always discussing to deal with any problems related to education to be forwarded to the Federal Ministry of Education.

He said the State Government, through the Yayasan Sabah Group, also provides sponsorship such as scholarships, bursaries and loans to enable young Sabahans to continue their secondary and tertiary education.

He said Sabah also made history by successfully combining all the main sponsors in education in the State in the Sabah Education Sponsorship Portal (PTPS), a holistic approach to coordinate all sponsoring bodies and education aid agencies in Sabah.

In the context of entrepreneurship opportunities, he said among the initiatives given included skills courses involving grants and funds as well as entrepreneurship training programmes through the Skim Jaya Usahawan Belia Sabah (Syabas) programme to encourage youths to venture into business to generate income and economy.

Hajiji hopes more issues related to the interests and needs of the youths in Sabah will be discussed at the conference and raised at the National Youth Consultative Council at the national-level so that the youths of Sabah do not fall behind, but instead keep pace with other youths in the country.

“Our commitment is to ensure that the youths of Sabah achieve success and excellence in line with the Hala Tuju Sabah Maju Jaya (SMJ) and the Malaysia Madani,” he stressed.
