PENAMPANG: NGO Penampang Watchers, together with a few shop owners and members of the public, proposed to boycott the Penampang town parking fees if the authorities continued to ignore their plea to review the rates.
Spokesman Edwin Jomiji said despite their previous video made last month, Penampang Municipal Council (PMC) went ahead with the system and issued summonses to visitors and shop owners from Aug 1.

The group reiterated that they are not opposed to the parking fees for the sake of development and services. However, they said, the rate must be reasonable.
They claimed the rate is highest when compared to Kota Kinabalu and other cities such as Kuching, Sarawak where it charges 20 sen for the first half hour and 50 sen for subsequent half hours, while in Penampang, it is 75 sen for every half hour.
