PITAS: Deputy Chief Minister cum State Works Minister Datuk Shahelmey Yahya announced that the construction of Pitas’ second water treatment plant has reached 85 per cent completion.
The facility, located in Kampung Perpaduan Saab, will have a capacity of 10 million litres per day.
ADVERTISEMENT During a media briefing following his working visit to Pitas, Shahelmey expressed confidence that the district’s water issues would soon be resolved.
The plant, scheduled for completion in March or April 2025, will supply clean water to approximately 30 villages.
“The remaining work, about 15 per cent, primarily involves installing mechanical and electronic components.
“All necessary components are on-site, awaiting installation,” he said.

Shahelmey also addressed the high rate of non-revenue water in the district, urging the Pitas water department to tackle this issue promptly.

In addition to water infrastructure, Shahelmey also received updates on road projects.
He said that two roads, Jalan Telaga and Jalan Salimpodon-Mantus, are slated for implementation by early 2025, while Jalan Rosob-Dandun will be prioritised in the next five-year rolling plan.
During his visit, Shahelmey also launched the second annual N5 Pitas Adun Cup football tournament, organised by Pitas Assemblyman Datuk Seri Dr Ruddy Awah.
Shahelmey commended the initiative for its potential to unearth local football talent, aligning with the Sabah Football Association’s objectives.
Present were Ruddy and Pitas District Officer Nahalan Medunah.
