Tenom: A proposal to regulate trolleys as a safe mode of transportation has been submitted to the Sabah State Railway Department, according to Tenom Member of Parliament Riduan Rubin.

The proposal aims to establish safety guidelines for trolley use, particularly as an alternative transport option for Kampung Pangi and Rayoh residents.

Currently, these villages rely on two transportation methods - official train services and unofficial trolleys.

Riduan, who recently met with the State Railway Director, acknowledged the existence of both systems in the Pangi area.

“While trolleys pose safety risks, we shouldn’t dismiss them entirely. In fact, they could potentially attract tourists, as seen in other countries,” Riduan said at Tuesday’s Jalur Gemilang Convoy Ceremony in Kampung Pangi.

He said that the Railway Department plans to collaborate with local village heads to supervise trolley usage and ensure compliance with safety standards.

“Our goal is to make trolley transportation genuinely safe,” he said.

Riduan also said that the lack of healthcare facilities in Pangi and Rayoh.

He said he has raised this issue in Parliament and at District Action Meetings, advocating for a health clinic in the area.

“The State Railway Department has agreed to provide land for this purpose in Kampung Pangi,” he said.

During his speech, he urged the community, particularly youth, to appreciate the nation’s current peace and prosperity, which resulted from previous leaders’ efforts.

He emphasized the importance of maintaining unity in Malaysia’s diverse society, guided by the Constitution and Rukun Negara principles.

Sabah Information Department Director Jainisiah Mohd Noor noted that SK Pangi is the 18th stop in the 60-destination Merdeka Jalur Gemilang Convoy across Sabah.

Kampung Pangi was selected due to its unique rail-only access and the need to disseminate government information to remote areas.

The convoy, comprising 14 vehicles from various government agencies, travelled by train to reach Pangi.

The event was attended by local officials, including Tenom District Officer Mas Syazwan Massod and Melalap Community Development Leader Simon Mamat.
