61-year-old jailed seven years for robbing woman
He was convicted under Section 392 of the Penal Code carries a jail term of up to 14 years, and whipping, on conviction.
Kota Kinabalu: A 61-year-old man was jailed seven years for robbing a woman.

Sessions Court Judge Elsie Primus meted out the sentence to Jusry Omasya after ruling that the prosecution has proven it’s case beyond reasonable doubt against Jusry.

Jusry was found guilty of robbing  Asnolia Jonol, 25, of her iPhone 13 at 11.10am on Sept 3, 2023 in front of the Wisma Kebudayaan, here.

During the incident, Jusry also caused hurt to Asnolia.

The court ordered Jusry to serve the jail sentence from the date of his arrest on Sept 5, 2023 and no whipping due to his age.

During mitigation, Jusry who was not represented, asked for leniency saying that he is a disabled person and already old.

He told the court that has retired as a water plant keeper of State Water Department.

Jusry also informed the court that he has four children to look after.

However, Deputy Public Prosecutor Tham Pou Jin urged the court to impose an appropriate sentence on the grounds that it was a serious offence and that such case was rampant nowadays.

Tham also submitted that the case went on a full trial. Five prosecution witnesses and a defence witness testified during the hearing.
