PENAMPANG: More than 2,000 young entrepreneurs received the benefits of the Sabah Youth Entrepreneurs Jaya Scheme (Syabas) this year.
Sabah Youth and Sports Assistant Minister Datuk Fairuz Renddan said every year the State government, through his Ministry, opened 2,500 applications to young entrepreneurs through Syabas.

“We will present Syabas amounting to RM2,000 each to 19 young entrepreneurs in the Penampang district as help to develop their businesses,” he said when speaking at the closing and prize presentation ceremony of the Amazing Youth Race Programme at the Kadazan-Dusun Cultural Association Mini Hall (KDCA), recently.
He said it is hoped that the assistance can be utilised and help open job and business opportunities.
Fairuz also invited the youth to use the Sabah Maju Jaya (SMJ) slogan as a reinforcement.

SMJ is not a party slogan but enshrined in the constitution and written on the Sabah State Coat of Arms, he said.
“There are still some people who poke fun at this slogan.

“SMJ does not mean that that Sabah’s progress will be like that of Dubai or other developed states overnight.
“This slogan is a reinforcing slogan that reflects identity, togetherness, especially the youth of Sabah to continue to contribute to the success of the state’s development agenda.
“In conjunction with the celebration of National Month and Sabah Day, I call on the youth to work together to protect, advance and dignify the State.
“Because this is our home, we are the ones who determine the future success and progress of the State,” he said.
A total of 1,000 youth succeeded in the programme which involved community service activities in the village of Koidupan, a 25km Merdeka Cycling event, a Recycled Materials Creative Work competition, a Youth Race-Treasure Hunt and a Sabah Strongman (Novice) Extreme Sports Competition.
Also present were the Permanent Secretary of the Sabah Ministry of Youth and Sports (KBSS), Datuk Mansur Asun, Penampang Municipal Council President Francis Chong, Penampang District Police Chief Superintendent Sammy Newton and Undersecretary of State Ministry of Finance who also served as the Chief Secretariat for the National Month, Sabah Day and Flag Flying Campaign, Dayang Selha Ibrahim.
