Man fined RM1,300 for assaulting security guard
The charge under Section 323 of the Penal Code carries a jail term of up to one year or a fine of up to RM2,000 or both, on conviction.
Kota Kinabalu: A 47-year-old man was fined RM1,300 or jailed six months by the Magistrate’s Court here on Friday for assaulting a man.

Nelson Labansin pleaded guilty before Magistrate Marilyn Kelvin to voluntarily causing hurt to a security guard one Sahairul Samshudin, 47, on July 6, at 9.45am, at gate 2, Training Institute of the Health Ministry, here.

The facts of the case presented by the prosecution stated that Nelson hit the complainant with a walkie-talkie unit which caused the complainant to suffer pain and bruises on the head.

In another case, a 24-year-old woman was ordered to pay a fine of RM1,300 or one month jail for engaging in online gambling activity in public.

Nur Haizah admitted to committing the offence on June 2, at 3.50pm, at a restaurant at Plaza Kivatu, Penampang.

She was charged under Section 7(2) of the Common Gaming Houses Act 1953 which provides for a fine of up to RM5,000 or a jail term of up to six months or both, on conviction.

Inspector Suzie S.K. prosecuting, informed the court that Nur was arrested by a police team during Ops Dadu after he was found committing the offence.

A handphone, a paper slip written with username and password to the online gambling apps and RM53 cash were also seized from Nur, said the prosecution.

Nur through a counsel requested leniency.

The court ordered the cash to be forfeited as government revenue.
