WASHINGTON: President Biden ripped former President Trump as “Donald Dump” while signalling unity with Vice President Harris at the duo’s first appearance together at an official event since she replaced Biden at the top of the Democratic ticket.
Harris and Biden walked out together to Bruce Springsteen’s “We Take Care of Our Own” on a community college stage in Largo, Md., to all smiles, waving at a crowd holding signs related to lower prescription drug costs.
ADVERTISEMENT Biden took jabs at Trump, his own former presidential rival, in part by trying out a new nickname.
“The guy we’re running against, what’s his name? Donald Dump or Donald, whatever, they want to get rid of this, what we passed,” Biden said of health care cost initiatives his administration touted.
Trump rarely uses the original name of Biden or Harris as he calls Biden ‘sleepy Joe’, ‘crooked Joe’ and Kamala ‘Kamabla’.
Biden took a page out of his own campaign playbook to blast the Heritage Foundation’s Project 2025, which Trump has worked to distance himself from, and warned that Republicans want to give big pharmaceutical companies a win.

Biden and Harris made an upbeat show of unity. Chants of “Thank you Joe!” rang out from the audience at a community college in the Maryland suburbs outside Washington.
Biden announced a major deal to reduce medication prices for retirees on social welfare programs.

But the biggest star was Biden’s vice president who has surprised many by uniting the Democratic Party and surging in the polls against Trump since her abrupt entry into the White House race.
“She can make one hell of a president,” Biden said of Harris.
Shortly after the joint appearance, Trump delivered rambling and often angry remarks from his New Jersey golf club, before taking questions from a handful of journalists.
Harris has a “very strong communist lean” and will mean the “death of the American dream,” he said.
The real estate billionaire and scandal-engulfed former president has struggled to pivot his campaign since Biden dropped out on July 21 amid Democratic concerns that he lacked the stamina at 81 to do the job.
Until then, Trump was rising steadily in the polls, in large part on his message that Biden was losing his mental acuity—a charge that gained currency when the president badly flubbed a televised presidential debate against his predecessor.
At his golf club event, the 78-year-old Trump began by reading lengthy statements from a binder notebook.
Using his trademark inflammatory language, Trump claimed that if Harris wins, “the radical left flag burners and Hamas sympathisers will not just be causing chaos on our streets. They’ll be running US foreign policy in the White House, and Israel will be gone.”
Harris, 59, delivered only short remarks to introduce Biden and stressing that it has been her honour to serve under the “most extraordinary human being.”
“There’s a lot of love in this room for our president. And I think it’s for many, many reasons. Few leaders in our nation have done more on so many issues, including to expand access on affordable health care, than Joe Biden. And today, we take the next step — thank you Joe — forward in our fight,” she added.
