Bank Islam Malaysia Berhad seeks to increase rural use of e-payments
Bank Islam’s Director of Deposits and Cards, Mohd Noor Jab, said that Bank Islam actively promotes technology-based solutions such as e-payment methods to further encourage cashless transactions so that customers and users do not miss out on the fast-growing digital trend.
RANAU: Bank Islam Malaysia Berhad (Bank Islam) has strengthened efforts to cultivate the use of electronic payment (epembayaran) among rural communities, especially micro, small and medium entrepreneurs in the district.

The effort was launched at the Inauguration Ceremony of the Ranau Cashless Community Initiative Program, was officiated by the Sabah State Finance Minister, Datuk Seri Panglima Haji Masidi Manjun here recently.

According to him, this program aims to encourage traders to use e-payment methods through DuitNow QR and BIMB Biz by Bank Islam (BIMB Biz) mobile banking application for their daily business affairs.

“Through the efforts carried out, the traders involved will get guidance and support using the BIMB Biz application which is equipped with specially designed features to facilitate the financial management of the companies they own.

“The application also helps manage the cash management risk of traders by ensuring a more organised record of daily sales and purchases.

“At the same time, the business community can also accept cashless payments (DuitNow QR) from customers,” he said.

According to him, QR code users are an easy, safe and efficient payment channel without cash.

“We are committed to expanding payment and electronic banking facilities, in addition to increasing access to inclusive and user-friendly services.

“Today, 99 percent of Bank Islam customer transactions are completed through electronic channels, of which 18 percent are through Bank Islam Internet Banking; 56 percent through GO by Bank Islam mobile banking application and 25 percent through self-service terminals nationwide.

“While the BIMB Biz application has now collected almost RM300 million in payments this year,” he said.

In further boosting the acceptance of e-payments as well as Bank Islam’s complete Shariah-compliant banking solution to the business community in Ranau, the program’s opening ceremony also involved a briefing session on the digital banking facilities provided as well as the introduction of iTEKAD, SME Banking and Bank Islam’s AlAwfar micro-financing programs.

There was also an awareness briefing on financial fraud managed by BNM.

So far, as many as 100 traders in Ranau have registered the GO Biz application and applied the technology in their business.

Mohd Noor added that through the planned initiatives, the merchant community in this district will get the necessary support in making use of the BIMB Biz and DuitNow QR applications as a digital payment acceptance medium that facilitates buying and selling.

“Our main objective is to create public awareness of the various facilities and benefits that users can enjoy through digital banking methods that are complete, safe and convenient for users without having to visit a physical Bank Islam bank,” he added.

The GO Biz application can be downloaded via the Apple AppStore, Google Play Store or Huawei AppGallery.

Also present were, Regional Director of Sabah, Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) Adlis Khairil Sazli Mohd Zaini, Senior Director of the Commercial Division, Payment Network Malaysia (PayNet) and Azrul Fakhzan Mainor.
