RANAU: An iconic community hall was almost destroyed in a noon fire near here, Tuesday.
Ranau Fire and Rescue Station Chief PPgB Ridwan Mohd Taib said the incident happened at Kg Sokid Bundu Tuhan, Kundasang.
“An emergency call was received through the Station Line at 12.09pm and seven firemen led by operations commander PBK II Wasli Saupin rushed to the location.
“Arriving at the scene located 28km from the station, they saw a semi-permanent multi-purpose hall that was 60 per cent burnt.
“The fire was brought under control at 1.30pm. No casualties were reported and the cause of the fire and losses are still under investigations,” he said.
Riduan said the operation ended at 1,30pm after an inspection was carried out to ensure there were no other dangers.
He reiterated the need for the public to be more cautious against fires, especially during the current dry season.
“If there is any open burning that cannot be avoided, it must be monitored and controlled, in order to prevent the spread of fire to nearby areas,” he said.
