Kota Kinabalu: Sabah’s five-day gold medal winning streak came to an end on Wednesday as they failed to win any to add to their medal tally.
They only managed to pocket two silvers in addition to five bronzes with the silvers coming from Sharon Jastine Salas in the men’s weightlifting -75kg category with 251kg and Muhd Khalil Helmi in the men’s 400m with his time of 48.05.

Three of the bronze medals were brought in by track and field athletes – Samantha Mae Godfrey Binting in the women’s pole vault event (3.10m), Maryjane Juberin in women’s javelin throw (39.01m) and Ledia Engku in women’s 3,000m steeplechase (12:79.42).
The other two bronzes came from swimming by Chu Xin Ying in the women’s 800m freestyle (9:43.42) and the women 4 x 100m relay freestyle comprising Xin Ying, Laura Lee Yen Yie, Annabelle Frederic and Loo Yie Bing (4:03.49).

It was a disappointing day for the contingent after their highest taking only a day earlier with six golds, four silvers and nine bronzes.
With only three more days to go in the competition, Sabah has yet to reach the halfway mark in their quest for 40 gold medals.
As at press time on Wednesday, they have 16 golds, 16 silvers and 36 bronzes in the table standing.
