CITY Hall is keeping an eye on the housing drains in one part of Luyang and Kolombong and will endeavour to have these amenities cleared regularly to prevent the run-off from stagnating inside.
This action was prompted by feedback from two homeowners about the water vegetation which was thriving in some drains in Dah Yeh Villa, as well as in Taman Seri Borneo.

City Hall’s Drain-Clearing Unit dealt with this backyard drain in Dah Yeh Villa.
A spokeswoman for City Hall’s Landscaping Department explained that the government concessionaire was responsible for maintaining the front-yard drains, while the agency tended to those behind residences under its jurisdiction.
She said the former amenities were cleaned according to a fixed schedule, with the same being done to the latter once every six-months.
“Our drain-clearing unit went to Dah Yeh Villa, a day after we were contacted by the press,” she said.

“Seven of our workers used ‘cangkuls (hoes)’ to desludge the common drain at the back of Lorong Kenawai 4,” she said.
“They also cleared the weeds which were thriving in the layers of silt at the bottom of the structure.”
The piles of muck were subsequently removed from the pavement in this Kolombong neighbourhood.

She said a four-tonne truck was deployed to facilitate efforts to remove the mud and trimmings from the work.
“The Unit has been asked to check on the condition of the backyard drains in the neighbourhood, from time to time, to ensure that any blockages are dealt with accordingly.”
When it came to the drains along housing roads around Dah Yeh Villa, the spokeswoman called on the concessionaire to exercise similar diligence in maintaining these structures.
“Landscaping staff noted that some sections of the frontyard drain on Lorong Kenawai 4 were full of water hyacinths. The concessionaire was informed of these observations.”
She said the company’s workers had these plants removed three days later.
In the case of Taman Seri Borneo, she said the firm was made aware of a rate-payer’s displeasure about the “half-hearted” job to clear the drains on either side of Lorong Seri Borneo 7.
“We were made to understand that these structures were cleaned, with the mud and weeds piled up along the pavement here. The homeowner couldn’t understand why this waste was not transported away immediately.
“To make matters worse, the muck still remained in the housing area three weeks later.”
One of the concessionaire’s staff puts his back into desilting this drain in Taman Seri Borneo.
The spokeswoman said an inspection was made of Taman Seri Borneo shortly after it learned of what had transpired.
“Our staff confirmed the piles of drain waste on the pavement along the road where the rate-payer lives.
She said the concessionaire was apprised of these findings and advised to take the necessary action.
“When our personnel returned a few days later, they found that the muck had since been removed.”
