Azalina Othman Said said Anwar Ibrahim told her he accepted the king’s decision to appoint Muhyiddin Yassin as the eighth prime minister.
Kuala Lumpur: Law and institutional reform minister Azalina Othman Said has urged Muhyiddin Yassin to be a gentleman, noting that Anwar Ibrahim, the opposition leader in 2020, had accepted the king’s decision to appoint the Bersatu president as the country’s eighth prime minister.
Azalina revealed that when she was the deputy speaker in the Dewan Rakyat, she had asked Anwar, the Pakatan Harapan chairman, about Muhyiddin being appointed to the top post, following the Sheraton Move which led to the collapse of the PH government.

And that was gentlemanly of Anwar, she told reporters, adding that Anwar had also accepted the king’s decision to appoint Muhyiddin’s successor, Ismail Sabri Yaakob, in the past.
The Umno information chief was asked to elaborate on her post on X, in which she wrote that no one should question the king’s discretion when it came to appointing a prime minister as it was his prerogative.
She said Muhyiddin, the Perikatan chairman and Bersatu president, should just wait for another two-and-a-half years to reclaim the prime ministership.

He should emulate Anwar (in accepting the king’s decision), she said.
Just contest in the next election, there is no harm, as we are a democratic country.

Muhyiddin had, at a ceramah in the run-up to the Nenggiri by-election, claimed that for some reason he was not invited by the 16th Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Al-Sultan Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah, to become the prime minister after the 15th general election despite obtaining the majority to form the government.
His remarks led to a police investigation against him for allegedly touching on issues related to the 3Rs (race, religion and royalty).
It followed 29 police reports against him and a rebuke by the Pahang crown prince, Tengku Hassanal Ibrahim Alam Shah, who said he had disparaged Sultan Abdullah.
Muhyiddin has since provided the police with documents to support his claim, including 115 statutory declarations backing him as prime minister.
