Sabah Government Pensioners Association’ blood donation drives, free health screenings

PUTATAN: The Sabah Government Pensioners Association (PPKS) Kota Kinabalu Branch will continue its blood donation campaigns and free health screenings in the State.

Its President Datuk Wilfred Lingham said the initiative aims to save the lives of patients in need of blood.

“This programme has been running for almost a year, and today’s programme is for Kota Kinabalu,” he told the media during the Blood Donation Campaign and Health Screening programme held at the Dewan Sri Putatan, here, on Monday. 

“This is the 19th programme implemented throughout Sabah, and we will have the closing in Kudat on the Aug 30 as the 20th programme.

“The need for blood is always urgent in all hospitals because it must be remembered that when we donate blood, that blood is a safety donation to save lives.

“So, it is important for those eligible to donate blood, I encourage them to come forward and donate blood.

“We will continue this programme next year, and we are in the preparation process to obtain sufficient allocation to implement this programme,” he said. 

Meanwhile, Wilfred and all PKKS members expressed their appreciation to Deputy Chief Minister III cum Minister of Public Works Datuk Shahelmey Yahya for visiting the programme.

“This morning we are quite lucky because for the first time we have a minister who can be with us, walk about and see what we are implementing for retirees,” said Wilfred. 

Shahelmey, who had just officiated the Launch Ceremony for the Putatan-level Independence Month and Sabah Day celebrations took time to mingle with blood donors and staff.
