RM5.5 million fags destroyed in Sandakan

The disposal of case goods by Sandakan police.
SANDAKAN: Various cigarettes worth RM5,543,100 were among case items disposed of by Sandakan police Friday morning.
The process was completed by Sandakan District Police Chief ACP Abdul Fuad Abdul Malek at 10am at Astemewa Waste Factory Sdn Bhd, Mile 8.
ADVERTISEMENT “The disposal of goods involves 184,770 packs of various cigarettes estimated to be worth RM5,543,100 involving nine smuggling cases investigated under Section 135(1)(d) of the Customs Act 1967.
“Also disposed of were 504 units of Bitcoin mining machines, 12 monitors and 150 other equipment involving Bitcoin mining cases which were investigated under Section 379/427 of the Penal Code.
“In addition, we also disposed of seven boat engine units involving four cases of migrant smuggling that were investigated under Section 26J of the Anti-Trafficking in Persons and Migrant Smuggling 2007,” he said in a statement.
Abdul Fuad said all the items were confiscated from 2019 to May 2024 and had received disposal instructions from the court and the Deputy Public Prosecutor of Sabah.

They were destroyed using heavy machinery and then burnt.
The disposal process was also witnessed by Sandakan Deputy Police Chief Supt Ramasamy A/L Kuppan, Head of Integrity and Standard Compliance Division of IPD Sandakan, ASP Yunus Sahak, and officers of the Criminal Investigation Division of Sandakan District Police Headquarters.
