KENINGAU: Motorcyclists and drivers are urged to exercise greater caution and adhere to the speed limits to prevent any unwanted incidents when riding or driving around the main village road.

Residents of Kampung Mongitom, Bingkor, were concerned about the safety of motorcyclists and motorists travelling through the main road that connects three villages - Kampung Kumawanan, Kampung Kuangoh, and Kampung Baru.

Retired Principal Alexsius Tingadon said he frequently observes motorcyclists and some drivers speeding through residential areas along the main road.

“This area is densely populated, with homes, pedestrians, including children, students and the elderly. Driving too fast could lead to unfortunate incidents,” he said.

Another resident, Baan Angga, stressed the importance of cautious driving to ensure the safety of villagers and other road users.

He said speeding not only endangers others but also puts animals such as dogs, cats, cows and goats at risk.

“We’ve had a fatal accident before where a villager was struck by a car that lost control. Tragically, the incident occurred while the victim was attending the funeral of my late son,” Baan said.

In addition, Baan urged motorcyclists to refrain from modifying their motorcycle exhausts that would produce excessive noise.

“Some teenagers modify their motorcycles to create noise, which not only violates the regulations but also stresses out residents’ pets. Imagine a dog chasing a noisy motorcycle — it’s distressing for the animals too,” he said.

Both Alexsius and Baan hope parents, families and community leaders will advise and remind motorcyclists and drivers to always drive prudently to avoid any potential accidents.

They also called for the cooperation of Police and Road Transport Department (JPJ) to regularly patrol the area.
