Kota Kinabalu: Some 31 graduates from the Integrated Agricultural Training Center, (IATC) Putatan have generated income of RM100,285.70 through the Incubator Project.
The project aims to provide hands-on training in five key areas: Cultivation, Landscaping, Animal Husbandry, Freshwater Fish Husbandry and Food Processing Technology.

Additionally, the graduates also participated in high-impact projects such as melon cultivation and management through fertigation at the Permanent Food Production Park (TKPM), IATC.
Deputy Chief Minister I cum Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Food Industries, Datuk Seri Dr. Jeffrey Kitingan, said the success of these incubator projects demonstrates the potential of the agro-food sector to generate significant income and become a vital source of livelihood for the youths.

“This is a promising start and an exemplary model. I believe this achievement is the result of the trainees’ commitment, dedication, and hard work in executing their business plans and projects,” Jeffrey said during the Convocation of the IATC Programme 2023/2024 at Wisma Pertanian.
His speech was delivered by Assistant Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Food Industry, Hendrus Anding.
Jeffrey congratulated the graduates for proving that persistence and perseverance in gaining knowledge can lead to tangible rewards.
“You have not only completed your studies with distinction but have also acquired essential knowledge and skills in the agricultural field.
“I am confident that you will serve as catalysts for the progress of the agricultural sector and play a significant role in advancing this industry,” he said.
In this era of digitalisation and globalisation, Jeffrey acknowledged the various challenges and new opportunities facing the agricultural sector.
He said the need for competitive, innovative, and committed young leaders and entrepreneurs to drive change.
“I believe that with the knowledge and skills you have acquired, you will be able to bring innovation and enhance productivity and effectiveness in the agricultural sector,” he said.
Jeffrey also expressed concern over the declining number of trainees enrolling at the centre, urging parents and graduates to help promote the Center to the public.
“Agriculture is the backbone of our economy and a source of livelihood for many. It is crucial to ensure that the next generation, as well as current farmers, possess the latest skills and knowledge,” he said.
During the convocation ceremony, Jelyscka Jango, a 33-year-old graduate from Tambunan, was awarded two Excellent Trainer Certificate Awards: Best Overall Trainer and Best Academic Trainer.
Jelyscka, the sixth of 10 siblings, aspires to open a pineapple farm in her hometown and become a successful entrepreneur.
“I did not expect to receive these two prestigious awards. I am deeply grateful to my mother, who has always encouraged and supported me in this field,” Jelyscka told reporters.
Jelyscka, who previously worked at a financial institution in Kuala Lumpur for six years, decided to leave her job and return to Sabah to pursue a career in agriculture.
“I come from a farming family, and I believe it’s time for me to continue this tradition, but in a more efficient manner, by following an agricultural course,” she said.
Meanwhile, five other graduates received the Excellent Trainer Certificate Award in their respective fields: Adam Edmond Juin (Agriculture), Mohd Alif Kahiruddin Nordin (Fisheries), Elstelle Omen Wilbert (Animal Husbandry), Mark Nicholless Madik (Landscaping), and Sabrina Bahari (Food Processing).
