Kota Kinabalu: Meet Uncle Yeo, the legendary retired tattoo artist who had been bringing Borneo body art to life since the 1970s

A recent video shared by Instagram user @borneotalk has introduced viewers to the retired tattoo artist in Sarawak.

“Meet Yeo Pueh Khun, a.k.a. Uncle Yeo, a legendary tattoo artist who has been bringing Borneo's body art to life since the 1970s,” the video caption reads.

The video showcases the rich history and vibrant culture embedded in Uncle Yeo’s work. 

It reveals that Uncle Yeo's tattooing career saw him travelling across Sarawak and Sabah to introduce designs inspired by Iban and Bidayuh cultures. 

“He now spends his days at his shop filled with antiques and art collection from which he shares his fascinating stories with visitors,” says the narrator in the video.

But Uncle Yeo’s talents extend beyond visual art as shown in the video.

“Fun fact: He is also an accomplished singer, just look at all these trophies!” says the narrator.

Viewers are treated to glimpses of a tiger carving on a cow bone that he crafted, as well as a self-sculpture.
