SANDAKAN: The Eastern Sabah Security Command (Esscom) coordinated a two-day integrated operation and inspected 532 squatter houses in four colonies and Sandakan town on Thursday and Friday.
Esscom Commander Datuk Victor Sanjos said 17 people were nabbed for not possessing any documents, out of a total of 876 individuals inspected.
He said the Customs Department seized various untaxed cigarettes with a total value of RM161,882.16.
“In addition, operations to cut off illegal water pipe and electricity connections were also carried out around the locations,” he said in a statement, Saturday.
He said the operation involving a total of 202 personnel was conducted with the police, armed forces, maritime, as well as state and federal agencies for the safety of the Eastern Sabah Security Zone (Esszone).
Before the start of the integrated operation.
“It is also to curb the presence of illegal immigrants in squatter colonies which could jeopardise public security,” he said.
Victor said the success in these raids is part of the continued government efforts through Ops Sanggah Esscom to enforce laws and protect the sovereignty of the State, especially on the east coast.
He said Esscom will continue to conduct integrated operations in Esszone areas to curb incidents such as cross-border crimes and other safety-threatening matters.
