Petanque squad lauded for two-gold achievement

Kota Kinabalu: The State Petanque team who brought home two gold medals at the just concluded 21st Sarawak Sukma Games received praise for their achievement.
The two golds were won by Marysa Appel @ Denny, Siti Noor Ellyshatul Balqish Suhaimi and Thadis Henhera Vennice in the women’s triple event and the mixed team of Muhammad Aeqhmal Mohammad Ardhy, Maxivianna Robert and Siti Nur Vivianah Chia.
ADVERTISEMENT Sabah Boules Sports Association (PSBS) president Morsede Mohamad in a statement on Sunday congratulated all the athletes and lauded their efforts.
“This time at Sukma, Sabah petanque athletes did extremely well and managed to bring home two gold medals.
“We are very happy with our athletes’ achievement and hopefully we will do even better at the next Sukma in 2026 to collect more medals for Sabah,” he said.
He also thanked Universiti College Sabah Foundation (UCSF) for their support in helping to develop the sport.

UCSF vice Chancellor Dr Rafiq Idris also congratulated the petanque contingent for their success and said they are committed to continue to support the sport.
“Petanque is a sport that is becoming more and more popular especially among the young people in Sabah.

“From the university’s perspective, we always support the development of petanque like any other sports in Sabah,” he said.
Meanwhile, all the gold medal winning athletes had earlier expressed their appreciation and thanks to the Youth and Sports Ministry, Sabah Sports Council, PSBS and UCSF for their encouragement and support.
The State team this year was represented by 14 athletes with seven men and seven women, and they participated in all the events which were held at Arena Petanque in Santubong, Kuching.
