TAWAU: A lamp made in 1924 brings back the pre-independence atmosphere for a resident here. It is still well preserved in the home of antique collector Sabturani Angsa, 76, from Kampung Batu Payung.
“The lamp was given to me by my cousin. When he retired, he brought the lamp for his own use until he gave it to me around 1958,” he said at his home, when visited by the Kembara Merdeka Jalur Gemilang (KMJG) convoy.
“When I look at this lamp, it reminds me of the atmosphere and conditions in our country before the formation of Malaysia.
“I still remember when we gained independence, the economy was still unstable and getting food was difficult, relying solely on what was grown.
