KENINGAU: Amanah Perpaduan Sabah (APS) is asking the authorities concerned to act on river pollution in the district.

Its Vice President, Paul Kadau said, the pollution, including one at the bottom of the tamu ground, here, is getting worse and worse.

“The main reason is that the squatter houses built nearby the river have no social responsibility to keep them clean,” he said in his statement here.

Paul said, garbage disposal, oil residues, the channeling of toilet faeces directly into the river are made the river polluted.

He said the act of becoming a river where garbage is dumped also affects the quality of the water, the health of users and the people of the village as well as fish in the river.

“River pollution in this district has been going on for decades and until now there has been no solution,” he said.

Paul urged the authorities here to go to the ground immediately to see for themselves the pollution situation and take drastic action.
