RANAU: Twenty-three household heads (KIR) received the keys to their Rumah Mesra Sabah Maju Jaya (SMJ) from Sabah Finance Minister Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun at a handing-over ceremony in Kampung Pahu recently.
Thirty-five Rumah Mesra SMJs have been completed for the Karanaan constituency in total, but only 23 household heads could attend the key handover ceremony, symbolically representing the remaining 12 households. Masidi, who is also Karanaan Assemblyman, said the Sabah Government remains committed to the initiative of constructing SMJ Friendly Houses for families in need.

“The handover ceremony of 23 SMJ house keys today, valued at RM80,000, is solid proof of the Sabah Government’s concern for the people, especially for disaster victims and the hardcore poor.
“I hope that all 60 Rumah Mesra SMJ units approved until 2024 can be completed according to schedule so they can be handed over to the recipients as soon as possible,” Masidi said.
The Sabah Government launched the Rumah Mesra SMJ housing programme on Sept 28, 2022, to lift people out of poverty and provide affordable housing for the B40 group.

Rumah Mesra SMJ adopts the People’s Housing Project for the Hardcore Poor (PPRT) concept to help those living below the poverty line in Sabah to own a house free of charge.
