One of the agency’s technicians observed that the strength of the supply reaching this meter in Taman Chi Mei was strong.
The Water Department is keeping an eye on a village and residential property in Inanam, as well as a Lido neighbourhood, to mitigate the problems caused by the low pressure of the incoming supply at these locations.
This follows separate feedback from consumers in Kg Kapak at the former town and Taman Chi Mei in the latter area about the erratic supply which they had been receiving for the past three months.
ADVERTISEMENT They said, on ‘good days’, a thin ribbon of water was available for a few hours after midnight, while, on ‘bad days’, only the sound of air could be heard moving through their pipes.
A consumer at Taman Puri Warisan in Inanam, on the other hand, bemoaned the loss of the supply in his third floor apartment for several days recently.
These affected individuals furnished Hotline with the pertinent information about these problems, which was forwarded to the agency.

A Department spokesman said its staff confirmed that the strength of the supply going to Kg Kapak was weak, after checking the pressure at random water meters in the area.

“If need be, we will try adjusting the valve on the main distribution pipes to regulate the supply to our consumers in this part of Inanam.

“If this fails to boost the pressure, then we may have a water-balancing exercise implemented.”
Where Taman Puri Warisan was concerned, the spokesman said a malfunctioning fixture at one section of the distribution mains was to blame for the water woes at the property.
“We were made to understand that some apartment owners only received tap water for a few hours, while those on the upper floors received didn’t receive a drop at all,” he said.
He said a check of the distribution pipes along Jalan Puri Warisan was subsequently made, during which the agency’s staff noticed that the sluice valve at a section of the 450 millimetre distribution-line was damaged.
Its technicians set about replacing the faulty fixture a few days later, after the Department’s stock of the necessary spare part had been replenished, according to him.
“The strength of the main incoming supply to the apartments improved after the new valve was put in place.”
He said the agency’s staff doubled-checked on the condition of the incoming supply to the apartments shortly after the repairs were completed.
“They confirmed that water was reaching the bulk-meter for Taman Puri Warisan. At the time, the pressure of the supply was deemed to be acceptable.”
Nevertheless, in light of the shortage which unit-owners experienced, he said the Department’s personnel had been asked to make periodic checks of the distribution line leading to the property.
The spokesman said its technicians would also be keeping tabs on the water situation in Taman Chi Mei from time to time.
“Our personnel checked on the condition of the main distribution line before the meter for the complainant’s premises, shortly after we were contacted by the media.
“At the time, the pressure of the supply at this section of the water mains was deemed to be strong.”
He said the agency was unable to reconcile these findings with the homeowner’s claims about the low pressure which she had been experiencing since June.
This was especially so because none of the other units in the vicinity seemed to be having this problem, according to him.
“A local politician even contacted us about this problem at one stage.”
He said the agency’s staff theorised that it might stem from some irregularity with the “internal reticulation” for the consumer’s house.
