Come early for celebrations, advise police
Kasim said for the Sabah Day celebration starting on the night of Aug 31, a total of 43 personnel and five traffic officers will be assigned to control traffic flow due to junction and road closures, while 35 personnel and six officers will control security around the programme site at the Padang Merdeka.
Kota Kinabalu: Members of the public who wish to witness the 2024 National Day parade on Jalan Tun Fuad Stephen and the Sabah Day celebration at Padang Merdeka on Aug 31 are advised to come early and use public transportation or carpool.

Kota Kinabalu District Police Chief ACP Kasim Muda this is to ensure their comfort and facilitate traffic flow due to the closure of several main roads around the city from Aug 27 to 31.

“Among the roads that will be closed throughout the National Day celebration period is one lane from the Sutera Harbour exit towards the Jalan Mentari entrance (to Imago), the intersection of Jalan Mentari, Millennium Roundabout to Jalan Tun Fuad Stephens, Skybridge traffic light - the route from the direction of traffic light 20 to celebrations stage, the route from the Api-Api Centre entrance to the Skybridge traffic light and the Api-Api exit lane to the Skybridge traffic light.

Roads that will be closed periodically are the Jalan Centre Point slip road towards Api-Api Centre, the middle lane of Api-Api Centre and the route to the MAA Api-Api Centre building,” he said during the interview programme segment “Kita Cerita #Kitakongsi” at the SABAHfm studio.

“The intersection that will be closed is the junction from Istana Seri Kinabalu Gate towards Padang Merdeka, while the routes that will be closed are from the Community Hall traffic light towards Padang Merdeka and the route from the Bukit Bendera three-way junction towards the Istana Seri Kinabalu Gate,” he said.

In other developments, Kasim said the police are offering a 50 per cent reduction in compound rates for selected summonses to vehicle owners in conjunction with the National Day and Sabah Day celebrations.

He said members of the public with traffic summonses can enjoy this discount from Aug 29-31 by settling the summonses at the Kota Kinabalu District Police Headquarters counter.

“This compound rate reduction offer does not include five mandatory offences, including offences involving road accidents,” he said.
