Aces competition can promote culture, unity: Liew

Kota Kinabalu: The Sabah Ethnic Creative Dance Competition of the Academy of Citra Seni Sabah (Aces) can promote culture and unity in Sabah.
Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister (KePKAS) Datuk Christina Liew said such a programme could help the Sabah Government in promoting the uniqueness of culture in Sabah while also building unity among the community.

“Programmes like this are very important in ensuring that culture is not only enjoyed by the people of Sabah but also by the general public who are not from Sabah.
“We have more than 35 main ethnicities and all of them are together in showing unity and promoting our culture.
“Programmes organised in conjunction with the National Day can also strengthen unity from all walks of life, whether old or young.
“This competition is not about who wins or loses, but it is a way of encouraging our young generation to promote our unique customs and traditions in Sabah from a young age,” she said at the opening cum prize presentation of the competition in conjunction with the 2024 National Day and Sabah Day celebrations here.

The programme organised by the Sabah Cultural Board (LKNS) in collaboration with the Sabah Education Department saw secondary schools from all over Sabah compete for the title.
SM Saint Francis Xavier Keningau outshone 10 other schools to emerge as the champion in the final and took home RM5,000 along with a certificate presented by Liew.

KePKAS Deputy Permanent Secretary I Mary Malangking, Deputy Permanent Secretary II Alesia Sion and LKNS Director Dikin Musah were also present.
