Kota Kinabalu: A 31-year-old Indonesian currently serving life imprisonment for drug trafficking was on Thursday jailed seven years by the Sessions Court for using a motorcycle to assist in drug trafficking activity two years ago.
Baharuddin Anwar pleaded guilty before Judge Amir Shah Amir Hassan to having used a Yamaha YI5ZR motorcycle to facilitate or assist in the course of dangerous drug trafficking activities which is a scheduled offence under the Dangerous Drugs (Forfeiture of Property) Act 1988.

Bahruddin had committed the offence on March 10, 2022, at 12.30pm, at Cyber City Phase 1, Block E, Kepayan.
The charge is punishable under Section 3(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs (Forfeiture of Property) Act 1988 which carries a jail term of between five years and 20 years, on conviction.
Deputy Public Prosecutor (DPP) Muhammad Al-Hakim Abdul Razak informed the court that Baharuddin was arrested during a police raid after being observed parking a motorcycle in the residential parking area and lifting a box from the back of the motorcycle.
Baharuddin attempted to flee upon noticing the presence of police but was unsuccessful.
Upon inspection, the box was found to contain four plastic packets with a crystalline substance, suspected to be syabu, weighing 6,030gm.
Police investigations revealed that Baharuddin was involved in drug trafficking activities as a courier and/or drug seller for an individual named Chok Tain Vui, for whom he received wages.
Baharuddin was tried under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 at the High Court which found him guilty and sentenced to life imprisonment and 12 lashes in connection with two separate cases.
Baharuddin confirmed to the court that he is currently serving life imprisonment plus 12 strokes of the cane imposed by the High Court for drug trafficking and is expected to be released in 2042.
Unrepresented, Baharuddin requested for the sentence to run concurrently with his present jail term.
DPP Al-Hakim applied for a deterrent sentence.
Amir Shah in meting out the seven years jail sentence said it would serve as a lesson to Baharuddin.
Amir Shah ordered the sentence to run from Thursday.
