CITY HALL will step up checks on the streetlights in the middle of the divider at Mile 7 Jalan Tuaran, as well as on verges in Jalan Kilang and Lorong Pic which are both in the Kolombong area.
This action was prompted by feedback from employees at the Hiong Tiong Industrial Centre and Sedco Industrial Estate about the poor night-time driving experience they had on the access roads to their workplaces in Inanam and Kolombong.

They provided Hotline with the location of the unlit sections in their respective areas which was forwarded to the agency.
A spokesman for City Hall’s Engineering Department said preliminary inspections were made of the affected stretches, shortly after it learned about the streetlight irregularities.
He said its electrical contractor confirmed that technical issues were behind the breakdown of the public-lighting on these roads.

The damaged components left the main road – between the Taipan and Hiong Tiong Industrial Centres – pitch black for some time,” he said.

A sky-master was deployed to facilitate repairs on the lights along the access road to several industrial estates in Kolombong.
The spokesman said this was the second time that the lights on the median of Jalan Tuaran had broken down.
Last month, burnt out “contactors” rendered these amenities out of order, according to him.
A “contactor” was a type of switch for repeatedly opening and closing an electric circuit, he explained.
“Owing to the recurring outage, we have asked the technicians to increase their surveillance of this part of Jalan Tuaran.”
The spokesman said three faulty 60 amp MCBs caused the lights along the housing road in Taman Kolombong to fail.
“The contractor had new MCBs installed in place of the damaged ones that morning and then tested the lights to ensure that functioned.
He returned to Lorong Pic later that night to confirm that the stretch, which extends for some 533.5 metres, was properly illuminated.”
A sky-master was deployed to facilitate the repairs in both instances, according to the spokesman.
He explained that a MCB prevented electrical hazards by detecting and interrupting abnormal currents and short circuits.
Where Jalan Kilang in another part of Kolombong was concerned, the spokesman said problems with the “photocells” disrupted the public-lighting along the stretch which measures about 1.78km in length.
Aside from the Sedco Industrial Estate, the BDC and Seludang Industrial Estates are also situated along this road.
When asked how often maintenance was carried out on those streetlights under City Hall’s jurisdiction, the spokesman said there was no fixed-schedule for this work.
“These amenities are attended to as and when it becomes necessary to do so.”
