KOTA KINABALU: The Kadazan Dusun Cultural Association (KDCA) Youth Council has strongly supported the Sabah Day celebration, held annually on Aug 31. The Council has highlighted the event’s significance in fostering unity and promoting cultural pride among the people.
Sabah Day, a state-level celebration, marks the day when Sabah gained self-government from British colonial rule in 1963, preceding the formation of Malaysia on Sept 16 the same year. It has become a day of reflection on Sabah's rich cultural heritage and journey towards self-determination.
KDCA Youth Council, representing the younger generation of the Kadazan Dusun community, has emphasised the importance of Sabah Day as a platform to showcase and preserve the unique cultural identities of Sabah's various ethnic groups.
Its Chairman, Steve Johnny Mositun, believes that celebrating Sabah's diverse cultures plays a crucial role in uniting people from different backgrounds and fostering a shared sense of belonging.
"Sabah Day is not just a celebration of our historical achievements, but a day to remind ourselves of the strength we draw from our diversity.
"It is an opportunity for all Sabahans to come together, irrespective of their ethnic or religious backgrounds, and celebrate the common values that bind us," he said in a statement, Sunday.
