Perikatan Nasional will decide if PAS contests in Sabah, not SAPP, says Hadi
PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang said his party sees a bright future in Sabah, after an increased attendance by youths at the party’s convention in Kota Kinabalu.
BANGI: The Perikatan Nasional leadership will decide if PAS contests in Sabah, not Sabah Progressive Party, says PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang.

The PN leadership will decide if we contest in Sabah. No one else will decide that for us, including Sabah Progressive Party,

Hadi told the media at the State Government 4 summit here today.

He was responding to SAPP president Yong Teck Lee’s statement yesterday telling PN to stay out of the state election.

Asked if PAS will work with Gabungan Rakyat Sabah, he said the matter is still being discussed within the party.

We will look for the best party to work with. This is still being discussed within the party, he said.

Hadi had said yesterday that PAS sees a bright future for the party in Sabah, given the increased attendance by youths at the party’s convention in Kota Kinabalu last weekend.

He also said PAS would have to win seats in Sabah if it intends to take Putrajaya.

FMT previously reported an analyst as saying PAS cannot realise its ambitions to win its first seat in Sabah based solely on Hadi’s claim of many youths at the party convention.

Romzi Ationg, an associate professor at Universiti Malaysia Sabah, said it was not wrong for Hadi to dream, but he should ensure his ideology is suited for Sabahan voters.

He said PAS has a huge task ahead of it, given its discouraging performance in the state so far, with Aliakbar Gulasan as its sole assemblyman there through an appointment by the state government.

The current Sabah state assembly’s term ends in October next year, after which a state election must be held within 60 days, should it not be dissolved earlier.
