Kota Kinabalu: A 45-year-old man was fined RM25 to causing disturbance at his fiancee’s workplace by hitting the premises’ mirror with a hammer.
Eddy James @ John pleaded guilty before Sessions Court Judge Elsie Primus to the amended charge against him on Monday.
He had committed the disturbance at 12.15pm on Dec 26, 2023 at Welcome Reflexology in Inanam Taipan, here.
The offence under Section 8 (G) of the Sabah Minor Offences Ordinance provides for a fine of RM25.
During mitigation, Eddy who was not represented, asked for leniency.
When asked by the court why he committed such act, Eddy said on the said day, he sent a WhatsApp text to his fiancee but no response was forthcoming.
Before handing down the sentence, the court advised Eddy not to cause any problem with anyone again even if he have personal problems because such act had caused disturbance and fear to others.
However, Deputy Public Prosecutor Sofia Sawayan urged the court to impose an appropriate sentence on the grounds that Eddy had acted aggressively not only to the complainant (fiancee) but also her colleagues.
She added that the complainant and those at the scene felt threatened and scared because of Eddy’s act.
