Kuala Lumpur: A company director facing a charge in the ongoing KL Tower corruption case has been given temporary custody of his passport to enable him to travel overseas.

Abdul Hamid Shaikh Abdul Razak Shaikh, a director of Hydroshoppe Sdn Bhd, which manages KL Tower, said he is required to travel between Sept 10 and Nov 15 on work matters and to accompany his children to the UK.

Hamid was charged last year with offering an annual RM500,000 bribe over 15 years to former communications and multimedia minister Annuar Musa in connection with the takeover of the KL Tower concession.

He had been ordered to surrender his passport to the court pending disposal of his case.

Judge Suzana Hussin granted the application after deputy public prosecutor Iffa Sirhu Samsudin said the prosecution had no objection to the temporary release of Hamid’s passport.

The court also fixed Sept 10 for next mention.

Hamid was represented by lawyer Weera Premananda.

The court had previously released Hamid’s passport to him for a business trip to the US and Germany.
