LAHAD DATU: Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd (SESB) lodged a police report over the theft of electricity through illegal connections at the Kampung Puyut squatter settlement, here, Tuesday.

Madius, in a press release, said they conducted a survey at the settlement and discovered that illegal electricity connection activities were carried out openly.

“This is a serious matter and I went straight to the Lahad Datu Police Headquarters to lodge a report,” he said.

According to Madius, there are about 1,000 houses in Kampung Puyut, resulting in about RM1 million in losses to SESB.

“The report was lodged to enable the police to carry out investigations on those involved and also if the illegal electricity connections were done by the residents themselves or a syndicate,” said Madius.

“It was also to ensure no one would become a victim of electric shock as illegal electricity connection is dangerous and poses a threat to public safety, including the residents in Kampung Puyut,” he added.
