Kota Kinabalu: Sabah Perikatan Nasional Youth chief Muhammad Affan Jumahat accused Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP) President Datuk Seri Yong Teck Lee of disrespecting the coalition while still being a part of it.
“If they (SAPP) is no longer interested in staying, then state your stand and get out of Perikatan,” said Sabah PN Youth Chief Muhd Affan.
He was responding to Yong’s call for Perikatan to stay out of the coming Sabah election because it is a Malaya-based coalition.
“It is akin to not measuring the clothes on your own body,” Muhd Affan said.
He said SAPP’s continued presence in Perikatan while advocating for the coalition’s absence in the Sabah polls is a blatant contradiction.
“His statement is seen as disrespectful to the spirit of friendship in Perikatan, which SAPP is still part of.
“He had no right to issue a statement on behalf of the coalition,” Muhd Affan said.
Muhd Affan’s criticism echoes the sentiments of PAS President Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang, who on Monday said the decision to contest in the Sabah polls rests solely with the Perikatan leadership, not Yong, although he holds the position of PN Deputy Chairman, while also being part of Gabungan Rakyat Sabah.
Sabah PN head Datuk Seri Ronald Kiandee had also asked Yong to decide which coalition he wants to be in.
The PN website states its political ideology as furthering Malay supremacy and Islam.
