LABUAN: Cayden Tiong Chen Min, a Year One pupil from Labuan International School (LIS), has won first place in the prestigious Gema World Storytelling Competition 2024.

Speaking to Bernama Wednesday, LIS Principal Fadlin Aimuni Binting announced that the competition, held from May 27 to July 15 and featuring young storytellers from around the world, saw Cayden triumph in Category B.

Cayden secured first place, outpacing participants from Mumbai, India, and Batangas, Philippines, who finished second and third, respectively. The results were released on Monday (Sept 2).

Gema, an international online education platform based in Dubai, UAE, is known for its world-class live online classes in subjects such as English, Science, Mathematics, and Coding.

The Gema World Storytelling Competition is one of the platform’s most anticipated events, fostering creativity and communication skills among young learners.

“Cayden’s victory highlights not only his storytelling talent but also the quality of education provided by Labuan International School.

“His win brings pride to the school and the local community, showcasing the potential of young talents from Malaysia on the global stage,” Fadlin Aimuni said.

The competition featured participants from diverse backgrounds, each bringing unique stories to life through their narratives.

Fadlin Aimuni said Cayden’s imaginative storytelling of “The Very Hungry Caterpillar” and his expressive delivery captivated the judges, setting him apart in a highly competitive field.

She said that Cayden’s accomplishment has brought immense pride to Labuan International School, with both teachers and peers commemorating his success.

“This victory is expected to inspire more students at LIS to pursue excellence in creative and academic endeavours.

“Cayden’s achievement in the Gema World Storytelling Competition not only marks a personal milestone but also underscores the importance of nurturing young talents in a supportive and dynamic learning environment,” she said.
