Inconsiderate motorcyclist fined
Yolius was charged under Section 43(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 (Amended 1999) which carries a fine of between RM5,000 and RM10,000 and liable to jail of up to 12 months on conviction.
Kota Kinabalu: A 31-year-old man was fined RM6,000 or four months jail by the Traffic Court here for careless and inconsiderate driving, last year.

Yolius Sekulok pleaded guilty before Magistrate Marilyn Kelvin to committing the offence while riding a motorcycle at Sulaman Kingfisher, Jalan UMS, here, on Jan 12, 2023, at 4.45am.

Yolius was charged under Section 43(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 (Amended 1999) which carries a fine of between RM5,000 and RM10,000 and liable to jail of up to 12 months on conviction.

Counsel Lim Ming Zoong, representing Yolius, requested a lenient sentence, noting that his client had pleaded guilty in the first instance, which saved the court’s time and resources.

Marilyn also ordered Yolius’ driving licence to be endorsed with the conviction.

Traffic prosecuting officer Inspector Mohammad Khairul Nizam Mokhtar prosecuted.

Meanwhile, a 22-year-old woman claimed trial to a charge of engaging in an online gambling activity.

Errah Suzierah John was accused of being involved with a gambling machine, specifically a mobile phone, by depositing credit into a player’s account to engage in online gambling using the ‘Epay Mobile Reload’ application.

She allegedly committed the offence on Aug 24, this year, at 8pm, in front of a premises at Kepayan Low-Cost Housing, here.

The charge under Section 4B(a) of the Common Gaming Houses Act 1953 provides for a fine of between RM10,000 and RM100,000 on each seized machine and also jail of up to five years, on conviction.

Marilyn set Oct 11 for pre-trial case management and released Errah on a bail of RM1,600 in two sureties.

In another case, a 22-year-old man was charged with committing mischief by cutting cables belonging to a telecommunications company.

Unemployed Md Afi Shauqqie pleaded not guilty to cutting cables belonging to Telekom Malaysia along with two others on March 25, this year, at the roadside of Putatan Meruntum near Kg Dumpil, Putatan, at 1.41am.

The charge under Section 431A of the Penal Code carries a jail term of up to two years or fine or both, on conviction.

The court set Oct 8 for mention and released Afi on an extended bail.
