Nabawan bridge reopened, but…
The bridge in question.
NABAWAN: Nabawan Public Works Department (PWD) engineer Ahmad Fairuz Yunus said the Sungai Pancuran Bailey Bridge which has been reopened for public use has yet to undergo upgrading works.

He said the bridge upgrade project will take 18 months to complete.

“The scope involved includes the removal of Bailey Bridge components, utility assets owned by Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd (SESB) and the State Water Department (Jans), piling/pile planting and road paving work,” he explained when asked to comment on the 37-second video clip that went viral on WhatsApp.

Regarding the incident of river water overflowing onto the alternative road on Jalan Kraftangan that prevented vehicles from passing through, Ahmad Fairuz said PWD had taken the initiative to postpone the removal of the Bailey bridge components to ensure that it was still safe for residents to use since there were no other routes to enter and exit from Nabawan township when Jalan Kraftangan is flooded.
