UTP Hosts Global Congress to Tackle Sustainable Energy, Digitalisation, and Smart Community Challenges
THE World Engineering, Science and Technology Congress (ESTCON) is back for its eighth edition.
This year, ESTCON2024 invites you to Sabah, Malaysia, for two days of thought-provoking discussions, networking opportunities, and a chance to explore the beauty of “The Land Below the Wind.” Held on 10 and 11 September at the Sabah International Convention Centre in Kota Kinabalu, the congress explores the theme of “Future Positioning through Sustainable Energy, Digitalisation, and Smart Community.”

The Congress will be officiated by Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Hajiji Noor, and the closing ceremony will be graced by the Minister of Higher Education Dato’ Seri Diraja Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir.
ESTCON2024 brings together researchers, policymakers, and industry leaders from across Asia,the Middle East, North America, and Europe to explore solutions for a sustainable future.
It will delve into the latest advancements in energy transition, digital technologies, and smart city development, all with a focus on achieving a sustainable future.
ESTCON2024 features five focused conferences offering in-depth exploration of key sustainability areas, namely International Conference on Decarbonisation Technology (ICDT), International Conference on E-Mobility (ICEM), International Conference on Environmental, Social and Governance (ICESG), International Conference on Smart Cities (ICSC) and International Conference on Subsurface Technology (ICSsT).

This year, researchers will present over 500 papers covering these critical themes, providing a platform for knowledge exchange and collaboration among industry experts and academics.

Presenting the keynote address at ESTCON2024 is Malaysia Petroleum Management Senior Vice President at PETRONAS, Datuk Bacho Pilong who will speak on “Navigating the Digital Frontier for Sustainable Energy Transition to Net Zero Carbon by 2050.”
The global Malaysian energy company, PETRONAS, has been an integral part of ESTCON2024.
Through PETRONAS Group Technical Solutions, a member of the organising committee, this latest edition is decidedly more industry-driven and features more contemporary topics.
Meanwhile, Bursa Malaysia Berhad’s Group Sustainability Director, Dr Ahmad Hezri Adnan, will deliver his keynote address entitled “Towards a Greener Future: ESG Integration in Investment and Business Practices.”
The Congress will bring together a world-class panel of speakers, including ABB’s Asia President for the energy industries Anders Maltesen, CEO of Lanza Tech Dr Jennifer Holmgren, PETRONAS Vice President and Chief Sustainability Officer Charlotte Wolff-Bye and Sabah Energy Corporation Chief Executive Officer Datuk Adzmir Abdul Rahman.
ESTCON2024 is also a Human Resource Development Council (HRDC) claimable event that offers continuing professional development (CPD) points from Malaysia Board of Technologists, Board of Engineers Malaysia, Construction Industry Development Board and Board of Geologists.
