Electricity tariffs: KKIP should not apply double standards
Chan said this could also lead to potential exploitation, such as reselling electricity back to SESB without making meaningful contributions to the local economy.
Kota Kinabalu: The Kota Kinabalu Industrial Park (KKIP) management should not apply double standards by offering cheaper electricity to foreign investors at the expense of local ones.

The National Consumer Foundation Sabah branch said there should be no discrimination in electricity tariffs to ensure a level playing field.

“This will uphold the spirit of competitiveness in Sabah’s open market, promoting healthy industrial growth for both local and foreign businesses alike,” said its head David Chan, in a statement.

He said KKIP should consider that local investors have been the backbone of the state’s economy and are consistent taxpayers.

“Such double standards in tariff allocation could create unhealthy competition within the industry, ultimately hurting local businesses,” he said.

“Sabah’s industrial development should emphasise fairness and competitiveness, treating both foreign and local investors equally.

“Allowing foreign investors to benefit from cheaper tariffs could undermine the local industrial sector’s competitiveness, which plays a crucial role in driving the state’s economy.”

He said this could also lead to potential exploitation, such as reselling electricity back to SESB without making meaningful contributions to the local economy.
