Beware of bogus Home Affairs officers in Tawau: Police

The message was shared with a photo of two men said to be a group going from house to house pretending to be Home Affairs Officers.
TAWAU: The Tawau Police have not received any reports related to a group going from house to house pretending to be Home Affairs Officers as claimed by viral messages on social media applications.
Tawau Police Chief ACP Jasmin Hussin confirmed that there were no reports of robbery by any individual in disguise as alleged.
ADVERTISEMENT However, he advised the community to always be vigilant.
“At the moment, the Tawau district is in good condition and under control,” he said in a media statement, on Friday.
Jasmin also reminded the community to always cooperate with their nearest Police Station and keep the telephone number of the Tawau Police Hotline 089-772121 handy.
In the event of any incident, contact the police or come forward and lodge a police report, he said.

He said the Tawau Police take note of the viral message with alleged documents and letterhead from the Ministry of Home Affairs claiming they needed to confirm that everyone had a valid identity card for the coming census.
The message also warned the public not to give any information to the group because their well-groomed appearances are fake and intend on robbing houses.
