SANDAKAN: The SMK St Michael girls’ dormitory at Jalan Puncak was destroyed in a fire on Sunday evening. 

Sandakan Fire and Rescue Station Chief, PKPgB Severinus @ Mohd Nidzam Sainkui said a team was deployed after receiving a distress call at 3.07pm.

He said a ​​40 feet x 60 feet house was 80 per cent destroyed.  

The firemen extinguished the fire using two streams of 200 feet from the fire engine tank, he said, adding the operation ended at 5.05pm with the school and church nearby unaffected.

No injuries were reported while the cause of the fire and loss is still under investigation.
