Two films for screening at City Mall
A still from Adiós, Buenos Aires.
Kota Kinabalu: Two films will be screened this evening (Monday) for Kota Kinabalu International Film Festival’s (KKIFF) Cinebalu Screenings at the City Cineplex, City Mall, here.

The first film is “Purusa: Wedding Sacred”, a short drama/cultural film from Indonesia.

It tells the story of Putu Dharma, who cannot marry Kadek Shanti because her parents disapprove.

However, her obvious pregnancy requires the village elders to devise a solution to protect the village’s reputation.

This will be followed by the Argentine feature film “Adiós, Buenos Aires”, directed by German Kral.

Buenos Aires, Nov 2001. Argentina is embroiled in an economic crisis.

And the anger and distrust of the Argentinian people towards their corrupt government is growing steadily.

Amid these troubled times, the Vecinos de Pompeya – a five-piece tango band – are trying to keep their heads above water.

They usually perform in a small, poorly attended pub and are often paid with empanadas (curry puffs) instead of pesos.

But what can they do? Leave the country? That is precisely what Julio has in mind.

He plans to emigrate to Germany with his daughter Paula and his mother Dorothea.

Julio sets about taking care of his last affairs in Buenos Aires – but he cannot escape the city so easily.

Screenings start at 8pm and all films have English subtitles. Visit the official website kkiff.com for the complete festival schedule.
