KENINGAU: The collaboration between the Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports (KKBS) and the Sabah Ministry of Youth and Sports is crucial for the development of youth in the state, said Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports, Adam Abdul Adli Halim.

He said Sabah needs special attention in youth development as there are still many issues to address.

“I am confident that the existing cooperation between the Sabah KKBS and the Federal KKBS will further strengthen through the joint organisation of programmes on youth development,” Adam said during the Kembara Jumpa Orang Muda (Kembara JOM) Sabah State 2024 programme at the Keningau Campus of the Teacher Education Institute, on Saturday.

According to Adam, the collaboration and relationship between the Sabah KKBS, led by its Minister Datuk Ellron Angin, and the Federal KKBS, led by Minister Hannah Yeoh, are excellent.

“All matters related to the sports or youth sectors are always discussed openly and honestly.

“In such an environment, we can work together more seriously and effectively. This is our hope at both the federal and state levels,” he said.

Commenting on Kembara JOM, Adam said it is an initiative by the Ministry of Youth and Sports (KBS) through the National Youth and Sports Department (JBSN) and the Youth Organisations Registrar Office (ROY) to allow youth stakeholders to provide feedback and views directly on the draft Youth Leadership Transition Plan to the senior leadership of KBS.

He said the feedback and views received from grassroots youth would be used to finalise the plan for amendments to the Youth Organisations and Youth Development Act 2007 [Act 668].

Meanwhile, the Permanent Secretary of the Sabah Ministry of Youth and Sports, Datuk Mansur Asun, said starting from next year programmes carried out by the Federal and Sabah KKBS would be aligned.

He said this would ensure youth development programmes are effectively implemented and address issues raised by youths.

During the event, Adam presented a four-star recognition certificate to the Keningau Town Youth Club.

Also present were the Director of the State Youth and Sports Department, Apui Jan, and youth leaders from the interior regions.
