KOTA MARUDU: A “Mongigol and Miagung” Workshop will be jointly held by the Native Foundation and Walai Tobilung at the Dewan Tapak Budaya Walai Tobilung, Kinbalu Unesco Global Geopark here from Sept 19 – 20.
The workshop, which will be attended by 50 participants, aims to bring young people closer to this cultural heritage, especially upper primary and secondary school students, so that they can appreciate and preserve this valuable cultural heritage.

The Native Foundation is a newly established non-governmental organisation under the Trustee (Incorporation) Ordinance (Sabah Cap. 148) chaired by Datuk Maijol Mahap, who is also a Trustee.
Among its objectives is to maintain and promote the arts and culture of the natives in Sabah.

He said that the implementation of this workshop includes briefings and training in traditional Dance and Music with guidance from skilled local trainers within the community.
Aspects of interactive discussion between organizers and participants are also included as a session to discuss the importance of cultural heritage and ways to preserve it.
“Everyone should work together to ensure that our cultural heritage is not only remembered but continues to live and develop among the new generation,” he said calling on young people to join this workshop to become heirs and preservers of this valuable cultural treasure.
