State Government committed to youth development: Chief Minister
Hajiji said youths are the driving force in various fields, including politics, economy, culture and education.
Kota Kinabalu: The Sabah Government is committed to youth development and producing a young generation with quality knowledge, skills and leadership, said Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor.

He said human capital development, including youths, is a significant driver for Sabah’s economic growth.

The availability of a highly skilled workforce is important to support the transition of the economic sector towards knowledge, technology and innovation-based activities, he added.

“That’s why RM100.17 million has been allocated this year for management expenses as well as youth development and sports advancement in Sabah.

“Of that amount, RM16.89 million is allocated to implement various leadership, skills and entrepreneurship programmes and activities aimed at empowering youths to achieve socio-economic wellbeing, in line with the Sabah Youth Policy,” he said at the Young Malaysians Movement (YMM) Sabah Branch’s 40th Dinner Anniversary at the Sabah International Convention Centre, here.

His speech was delivered by Sabah Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Ellron Angin.

Hajiji said youths are the driving force in various fields, including politics, economy, culture and education.

“Considering the important role of youths in national and state development and as future leaders, efforts to create a strong and systematic youth organisation are very much needed. Therefore, YMM plays an important role together with the Government in youth development in Sabah,” said Hajiji.

He hopes YMM Sabah will open up space to encourage more youths from various races to join this organisation, including reaching out to those in rural and suburban areas through outreach programmes.

“This is to ensure that youths in suburban and rural areas also have the opportunity to participate in various training, educational programs, counselling and social education to enhance their potential,” he said.

He said YMM Sabah as a “Five Star” rated youth organisation recognised by the Ministry of Youth and Sports has successfully played an important role in helping to develop and empower youths in Sabah.

He said through the efforts made by YMM, many young people have been guided and their talents honed through various training programmes organised to produce youths who think more critically and act more maturely in terms of politics, economy, culture and education.

“I hope YMM continues to work hard to instil noble values among youths so that they become dedicated, rational and sincere individuals and always participate in youth activities, thus contributing energy to the flow of national development.

“This is in line with the Government’s policy of strengthening quality human capital. This is to ensure that YMM remains relevant in empowering youths in Sabah,” he said.
