GRS must ensure party remains relevant
Yusof, who is also Sindumin Assemblyman, said that this mixed-government political scenario is also occurring in other countries, such as the United Kingdom and Australia.
LABUAN: All party members, especially the leadership of Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah (Gagasan Rakyat), must have an analytical mindset to ensure the party remains relevant to current circumstances and needs.

Sindumin Gagasan Rakyat Chief Datuk Dr Yusof Yacob said politics is inherently changeable with time, and presently, the situation can be described as challenging, requiring new thinking.

For example, he said, in Sabah, there is the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) Government, which involves a coalition of eight parties, Pakatan Harapan (PH) Plus and Umno, while at the Federal level, the Unity Government comprises several party coalitions.

“Therefore, party members must be adept at analysing, and this situation is highly complex and needs to be managed wisely.

“I emphasise the importance of support for component partners, understanding and good relations, which are very important in our current situation,” he said after officiating the Labuan Gagasan Rakyat Annual Meeting on Sunday.

Also present were Gagasan Rakyat Labuan Chief Rosli Awang Damit, his Deputy Prof Dr Harun Pudin, Vice Chief Abu Mahmood, Women’s Chief Jurai Tuah, Youth Chief Muhamad Faizal Abdullah, and Women Youth Chief Zuraidah Sahari.

Yusof, who is also Sindumin Assemblyman, said that this mixed-government political scenario is also occurring in other countries, such as the United Kingdom and Australia.

Hence, he said, good cooperation and understanding between the component parties in the mixed government are crucial.

“This means that even though another party leads the government, the component partners must not be sidelined,” he said.

He also stressed the importance of the 4R factor in selecting candidates for elections to ensure the party’s victory.

He said the 4Rs are the Right Person, the Right Place, the Right Party, and the Right Timing.

According to him, the chosen candidate must be qualified and capable of winning, the candidate’s local origins must be considered, as well as the party they represent, and the timing must be suitable for the situation.
