Kota Kinabalu: A 23-year-old man claimed trial to trafficking 196.26gm of syabu.

Jani Sahibul made the plea before High Court Judge Datuk Ismail Brahim when the charge was to him on Monday.

Jani is accused of trafficking the drug at 2.30pm on Aug 25, 2023 at the Kebun Gansing area in Papar.

He was charged under Section 39B (1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act which carries a life imprisonment and death sentence, and whipping, on conviction.

The court set Oct 9 this year for mention and ordered Jani remanded further pending the date.

Suluk interpreter will be provided for Jani during the mention date.

The prosecution informed the court that Jani needed a counsel to represent him during the hearing.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Dana Arabi Wazani appeared for the prosecution while Jani was not represented.
