Kota Kinabalu: Sabah police have launched a QR code for the public to directly report crime, traffic or emergency cases.

State Police Commissioner Datuk Jauteh Dikun said it is the first of its kind in the country.

“Even tourists can use it…maybe if they get lost, or the community can quickly report emergencies like a pedestrian accident.

“Previously, 15 ‘Op Payung’ stations were established around the city to ensure public safety and order.

KOTA KINABALU: Business owners, visionary entrepreneurs, and corporate leaders from across Malaysia are set to converge at one of Sabah’s most anticipated leadership events: CEO Masterclass (CEOM) 2025, happening on the 9th and 10th of July 2025 at the Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC). .
“However, with the passage of time and the expanding areas that need monitoring, ‘Op Payung’ is no longer sufficient,” he said after the launching at the Warisan Square Police Station, here, Tuesday.

Also present was Mayor Datuk Seri Dr Sabin Samitah.

Juateh said in line with digital technology advancements, the use of QR code scanning simplifies public access while improving police services.

“Initially, the Sabah Police Contingent chose four districts — Kota Kinabalu, Penampang, Tuaran and Papar — as pilot areas.

“The results will serve as a benchmark for the effectiveness of the platform before it is expanded to all districts in Sabah,” he said.

“All information submitted through this platform will remain confidential and appropriate actions will be taken.”

Jauteh said in addition to this platform, the police will continue to use conventional methods, such as police complaint boxes and the Volunteer Smartphone Patrol (VSP) application.

Meanwhile, the seven people - part of a 15-person fishing group that also included eight Chinese nationals - were still under the custody of Filipino authorities.

“At the moment, we have yet to get the latest news (on their status),” said Jauteh.

“We will let the Filipino government complete their probe, and when they return home, we will conduct our own investigations,” he added.

“As it is, it is still the same as what the Home Minister (Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution) disclosed previously,” he said.

Last Thursday (Sept 5), Saifuddin said three of the seven Malaysians detained will be flown to Manila before being deported to Malaysia.

The Home Minister said the three are from a fishing group of 15 (with eight Chinese nationals in it) that was arrested by the Filipino Coast Guard for trespassing on Sept 1.

He had said 11 people from the group were flown to Manila on Sept 6 for documentation verification and subsequent deportation, while four more Malaysians were still being held in the southern Philippines then.
